Healthy eating refers to the practice of consuming food that provides a human organism with all the required nutrients to be sound, feel good internally and externally, and receive the proper amount of energy. According to World Health Organization (WHO) (n.d.), a healthy diet consists of different types of food, contains a variety of vitamins and provides a proper distribution of healthy carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. The recommended combination of food according to WHO (n.d.), includes fruit and vegetables, animal-sourced proteins, such as meat, eggs, cheese, fish, and various kinds of cereals and starches. Healthy ration should also contain legumes, such as lentils and beans.

A proper diet should be customized based on the age of an individual, and each age category should prioritize the consumption of different types of food. Limiting the fat intake can be beneficial for reducing the undesirable accumulation of trans-fats in the organism. In addition, WHO (n.d.) highlights the necessity to reduce the consumption of salt and sugar. The intake of sugar should not exceed 10% of daily calorie intake and it is recommended to consume no more than 5 grams of sugar a day to prevent the development of heart diseases and other conditions.

Good eating habits improve the condition of the skin, teeth, and eyesight, making them less susceptible to a variety of diseases, such as tooth decay and acne. Healthy diet can also help an individual to reduce or gain weight when it is medically necessary for sustaining a healthy lifestyle.

Another benefit of healthy eating is the improvement of well-being on a global scale. If the majority of people maintained a sound diet, the whole population of the planet would become healthier.
