Healthy eating for Seniors

The older population requires various nutrients just as much as children and adults. Unfortunately, with time, elderly people start consuming less food because of decreased appetite and various health problems associated with age. Hence, older people should keep healthy eating habits by consuming the same variety of foods as they did during adulthood. However, senior citizens need to additionally receive more nutrient-dense products such as liver, eggs, lean meats, low-fat dairy products, fruit and vegetables, and wholegrain products (Better Health, 2021). Due to increased health problems associated with aging, paying special attention to the reduction of carbohydrates consumption is necessary for older people. Products that are rich in fiber, including beans, avocado, berries, and broccoli should also be present in the daily diet of senior citizens for maintaining bowel health (Better Health, 2021). Consequently, older adults’ diets should include diverse foods.
